Letter from Ian 23rd March
Dear St Columba's Family,
I hope you are all keeping well and that all the 70+ year olds are staying at home...PLEASE do get in touch (my phone no is at the end of this message) if you need anything, shopping, prescription, etc and we will do our best to meet your need. Our new Phone Groups should mean that you will receive a call from one of our church leaders in the coming days but please don't wait for a call from us if you need anything.
The photo below shows the church with candles in the windows last night just after 7pm - it took me a while to switch on all the battery candles and then raise them high enough to be seen from outside!
Here is the outline of a sermon from Rosie that she was going to preach last Wednesday before the service was cancelled, so do have a read, even if you are not a regular on Wednesday mornings. The good thing about this way of preaching is that there is the opportunity for you to come back with questions and comments, so please do feedback to me if you would like to.
Many of you will have heard the Prime Minister just now telling us that Places of Worship must close. This means that we can no longer open for private prayer, which was going to be one of the subjects of this email, John Lynch and I having spent some time today setting things up so we could do that in a safe way.
I think the Food Bank will remain open, but collecting supplies will be more difficult. My suggestion is that, on your way home from shopping, you call at the Vicarage and drop off anything for the Food Bank - we should be at home as we are not allowed out either.
Please pray for the family of Jimmy Brown who have had to scale back his funeral from a service in church with 200+ mourners to immediate family only at the graveside. This will happen on Thursday at 2pm.
Please do keep in touch in these difficult times and rest assured that we are praying for you.
May God bless you all,
