St Columba's Corby

Open to God... open to you

Letter from Ian 6th January 2021

Dear St Columba's Church Family,

It is with much regret that I am writing to say we will NOT have a service in church this coming Sunday, 10th January 2021.

I had anticipated this decision being made for us by the Government when the latest lockdown was announced. However churches are allowed to remain open for worship, with all the restrictions we have become used to. This is surprising given that the rate of infection is greater than at any time in the pandemic, and the "new variant" of the virus seems to be spreading so quickly. A good number of people have already said that they will not be coming to church during this period, including some of our Readers and Worship Group, but I know there will be others who were looking forward to church being an oasis of normality during this latest lockdown. The reason I have decided we will not meet is to protect the vulnerable in our church family. I said right at the beginning of the first lockdown that our first responsibility is to love our neighbour, and we can best do this by staying at home.

There will, of course, be an online service available for you to watch on Sunday, and while I do understand that this is not the same as meeting together, it is, I believe, the safest way to worship at this time.

The PCC will be meeting (using Zoom as we have for all PCC meetings since March last year) on Tuesday 12th January to discuss this decision and our plans going forward. If you have a view about services, either being held or not held in church at this time, please do let me or one of the PCC members know.

In the meantime if there is anything we can do to help you please do get in touch.

May God bless you and keep you safe,
